CESAR MANRIQUE FOUNDATION

Cesar Manrique Foundation

This foundation is located in Tahiche and deals with preserving, studying and promoting the history and work of the artist.

Here the artist lived until his death in 1988. Its construction began in 1968 in the middle of a river of lava cold and black which had been caused by the eruptions of 1730 and 1736.

The top floor is an accurate reflection of the traditional architecture of Lanzarote. He also incorporated modern elements such as large windows with great length.

The underground level is perhaps the most spectacular of these buildings. Here he took advantage of the spaces created by five volcanic bubbles all interconnecting. In the centre of these bubbles we find a jameo (roofless volcanic cave) where there is a small pool.

Its opening hours are Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
